Steve had another letter to the editor published in the newspaper. Read it below.
To the Editor, 11/07/03
In his front page article about the vote in the Illinois Senate on the plan that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain valid state driver’s licenses (“Driver’s License Plan 1 Vote Shy” – Daily Herald 11/07/03) reporter John Patterson states that “Critics are appalled at the thought of legitimizing illegal aliens”. Amen to that and count me in.
State Senator Miguel del Valle, the plan’s sponsor, contends that the plan would have received more ‘yes’ votes but for the fact that the ‘no’ voting legislators thought that their constituents “may not fully understand”. Au contraire, my friend. We do understand. We understand that this is yet another step down that slippery slope. The goal of those leading us down that slope appears to be the complete opening of our borders to any person that happens to wander by. I can just see it now: The good Senator, standing at the gates, shouting “Welcome! Welcome to the land of milk and honey. Do you have your Matricula Consular card? Good. Here’s your driver’s license. Now, belly up to the trough and get yourself a good helping of [state sponsored education, emergency medical care,…]. Now, don’t forget. As soon as you get settled in you need to start agitating for another ‘general amnesty’. That way you can vote for me at the next election.”
No, Senator, we do understand.
